Pamela McClain Helms changed her address in El Dorado for one in Heaven on May 4, 2014, as she went to be with the Lord and her loved ones who had gone before her.
Pam was born on Nov. 6, 1926, in Warren, but considered Hope, where she grew up, as her home.
Pam was preceded in death by her father and her mother, C.L. (Mac) and Jewell Bannister McLain; her sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Emil Semuno; a brother, Bernard McLain; and her loving husband, Richard (Dickie) Helms.
Pam is survived by her son, H. David Bearden (Deese) of Brentwood, Tenn.; her daughter, Dianne Goodman (Michael) of El Dorado; grandchildren, Dave Bearden (Neely) and Richard Bearden (Christy) of Brandon, Miss., Michael Bearden of Hoover, Ala., Lindsay Naylor (Ryan) of Franklin, Tenn., Ron Goodman of Shreveport, La., Pamela Graham of West Monroe, La., and Bowman Goodman of El Dorado. She leaves behind her much loved great-grandchildren, Shelby and Sydney Bearden, Hunter Bearden and Amanda Koiner, Josh and McKenna Naylor, Kirstin and Logan Goodman, Tristin and Makenzie Graham and Isabella Goodman. She is also survived by her beloved niece, Suzanne Zaranko (Jack) of Cleveland, Ohio and their children and extended family.
Pam loved life and the sharing of her faith, time and anything needed with her family, friends or anyone she met. She loved cooking and shared of herself in this way to more people than most of us will ever feed. There surely is a "world-record" she holds for the number of birthday cakes she baked for her fellow employees and friends during her 27 years at Ensco.
In addition to loving to work, which she did until she was 85, she loved to bowl. Her fellow bowlers were her "other family," whom she loved dearly. If there is not a league in heaven, she will be trying to start one! She will be waiting on her team, special life-long friends Pud, Louise, Veronica and Berniece to come join the league one day!
Pam loved her church home, Immanuel Baptist in El Dorado, and all of her friends in Christ. She was very involved in "Operation Christmas Child" and had become an expert package wrapper, keeping the road hot in her little Toyota pickup every Sunday delivering the wrapped boxes back to Max Rogers at the church and picking up a new load to wrap.
To her family and many friends she would say that her body is a shell, her mind might have been taken by cancer but her love for you all is the memory she leaves and hopes you will cherish it as much as she did.
A special "thank you" to the nurses, CNA's and other compassionate, caring people involved with Life Touch Hospice (John R. Williamson House) for their tender care of mother. Also special thanks to friends, Josie Reed, Dianne Kegley (daughters from other mothers), Sue Goodman and Misty Raymond for helping with her needs and loving her. To all of the others that loved her, you were one of the greatest blessings in her life.
Please come "Celebrate" her life with the family at visitation from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home.
Services will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, with the Rev. Glen Sparks officiating. A graveside service will follow at Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
