Joshua C Moore, 38, of St Louis, Missouri and formerly of Russellville, died on Sunday, October 2, 2016, in St Louis. The son of Tony and Becky Moore, he was born on January 26, 1978 in Port Smith, Virginia.

Funeral services will be Friday, Octpber 7, 2016, at Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 517 Reasoner Lane, Russellville, Arkansas under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service, 2801 West Main Street, Russellville, Arkansas. Rev Doug Hambrick will officiate.

Visitation will be prior to the service at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. Burial will be at Bowden Cemetery on Crow Mountain, 650 Crow Mountain Road, Pottsville, Arkansas 72858. Full military honors will be provided at the graveside by the United State Air Force.

After learning of Josh’s death, Tony penned this tribute to his son:
“Sergeant Joshua C Moore reported for duty before the Supreme Commander of the Universe October 2, 2016. At 38 years young, the Lion’s heart of a soldier, may have stopped due to a massive heart attack, but his love for God, family and country lives on.

He loved being outside amidst the mountains and streams and found pure joy in hunting, fishing, shooting, sports, jeeps, motorcycles, the Chicago Bears, all dogs and life.
He was a patriot who loved this country, he never saw an American flag he did not want to salute, a battle he did not want to win or a fellow Airman, Soldier, Sailor or Marine he would not have died for. He was dedicated, determined and loyal. He was proud of being a momma's boy and to tell the whole world how much he loved his mother Becky Moore.

Josh was born January 26, 1978, in Port Smith, Virginia. As he grew in vigor and status, Josh was a starter on the 1995 Russellville Cyclones football team and helped assisted them to many victories. After graduating High School in 1996, Josh began working a variety of jobs that would ultimately help him gain the skills to prepare for duties that awaited him in a distinguished military career.

Josh was truly a man of valor, with unparalleled passion. His short lived but fulfilled mission on earth was to be a loyal servant to his fellow man and his country. Not only was he was a devoted patriot, he was faithful friend, mentor, brother and son. His heart extended beyond understanding, finding purpose in coming alongside others, especially in their struggles. He would firmly stand in the gap for his friends no matter the sacrifice. An encourager to all, never too proud to help another, Josh had an uncanny way of connecting with people and making them feel valued. While traveling across continents and countries, he deeply touched the lives of many, we will never even know to what extent.

Josh will forever be loved by those he left behind. He is survived by his father and mother, Tony W and Rebecca F Moore and Brothers, Caleb A Moore (Jodi) and Jacob B Moore, all of Russellville and the love of his life, formed on the front lines in Afghanistan with Captain Sarah L Griffith to whom he was engaged to be married upon her return from her most recent deployment to that country; his maternal grandparents are Gloria McKellar Howell of Russellville and Winford Reynolds of Russellville and the late Betty Reynolds. His paternal grandparents are Melba Moore of Atkins and the late J B Moore. He was also preceded in death by an aunt, Maureen Bacquet and a cousin, Cade Sellers Bacquet.

A leader of men and a servant to our country a soldier of courage, fearless in nature, strong willed in character and humble at heart. We stand here to salute you, Sergeant Josh Moore with high honors. You will be missed dearly. Your duty is now complete.”

The Pennsylvania Air National Guard recognized Josh service to his country with the following information given to his family after learning of his passing. He joined the Arkansas Air National Guard in February 2004. After completing Basic Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, he attended training for 1N1X1 Geospatial Intelligence at Goodfellow AFB, Texas.

He arrived at his first duty station, 123rd Intelligence Squadron, Little Rock, Arkansas in January 2005. Sergeant Moore spent 30 days at the 123 IS working on his career development course before being selected to go to the 127th Wing, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan. Sergeant Moore then went on to the 188th Fighter Wing (FW), Fort Smith, Arkansas for 45 days for additional training.

From May – October 2005 Sergeant Moore deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and the TARS program. While deployed, he supported F-16 crews from the 148FW, 188FW and the 147FW conducting route planning as well as skilled imagery exploitation.
Sergeant Moore’s next assignment took him to the 112th Air Operations Squadron in State College, Pennsylvania in June 2006. Sergeant Moore quickly integrated with the 112 AOS graduating the Air and Space Operations Center Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Initial Qualification Training Course in August of 2006.

Sergeant Moore then deployed to Afghanistan from December 2008 to August 2009 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He was station at Kandahar Fusion Cell supporting Special Operations Forces missions. While there his primary duties were Collection Manager and Lead Analyst for Zabul Providence, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Tactical Controller.

In 2011, Sergeant Moore volunteered to assist with theater operations at the 623d Air Operations Center, Hurlburt Field, Florida from August to December. While there he organized and coordinated the Processing, Exploitation and Dissemination Management of Special Operations Forces missions. He was also responsible for presenting senior Air Force Special Operations Command officers with timely and critical Intelligence briefings.

Sergeant Moore deployed from November 2013 to May of 2014 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. While there, he was assigned to a Task Force where he served as Air Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Instructor, Certifier and Special Program Flyer amassing nearly 500 hours of combat flight hours. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication to duty, Sergeant Moore earned the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Aerial Achievement Medal.

In May 2014 Technical Sergeant Moore was selected to serve in a critical combat support role with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, St Louis, Missouri providing support to overseas contingencies.

Josh was a highly decorated airman, having received the following medals and awards recognizing his military achievements: The Bronze Star, The Air Medal with 3 devices, Aerial Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 4 devices, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with 3 devices, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 devices, Iraq Campaign Medal with 1 device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Ribbon with 1 device, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with 1 device, Air Force Longevity Service with 2 devices, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 4 'M' Devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, and the NATO Medal.

Tony and Becky and the entire family wish to express their deepest appreciation to friends present and past, church family, professional colleagues, Guardsmen and United States Military Personnel for the outpouring of love and support during this most difficult time. They are especially grateful to all who have honored his service to his country.
