HOPE, Ark., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Audio pioneer Paul W. Klipsch will be buried tomorrow in Hope, Arkansas. The 98 year-old inventor, engineer and, scientist died May 5 at his home in Hope.
Klipsch created a new breed of audio speakers, and founded the company that bears his name, now known as Klipsch Audio Technologies, in 1946.
Over the years, Klipsch held three patents in ballistics, eight in geophysics and 12 in acoustics. His "Heritage Series" loudspeakers including the Klipschorn, LaScala, Belle, Cornwall and Heresy are known worldwide for quality and accuracy that continue to set audio industry standards today.
Klipsch received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico A & M, now know as New Mexico State University, in 1926.
He received his master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. Klipsch has generously contributed to his New Mexico alma mater and in 1995 the university dedicated the Paul W. Klipsch Lecture Hall, Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Klipsch School of Electrical Engineering.
In 1997, the university dedicated the Klipsch Museum, providing a scholarly and entertaining view of engineering history. That same year, Klipsch joined the ranks of pioneers Thomas Edison, Jonas Salk and the Wright Brothers when he was inducted into the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame for acoustic, ballistic and geophysical contributions to science.
Herndon Funeral Home of Hope is handling services for Klipsch. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow and interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery.
His second wife, Valerie, son, Raymond Booles, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and extended family, survive Klipsch.
