When Grover Garfield Polk was born on October 16, 1901, in Arkansas, his father, Thomas, was 50 and his mother, Angeline, was 42. He married Gertie Mae Howard on December 9, 1918, in Conway, Arkansas. They had two children during their marriage. He died on December 12, 1981, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, at the age of 80.
