George U Ross, age 88, of Charleston, passed away November 18, 2016 at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He was born January 13, 1928 in Charleston, Arkansas, to James Rogers "Jim" and Myrtle McDonald Ross. He was a retired US Army Veteran of the Korean War and a 2 time Purple Heart recipient. He was a retired Rural Mail Carrier.
He attended the First United Methodist Church of Charleston. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 131, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the Order of the Eastern Star 16, a life member of the American Legion Post 8, member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, James Ross; and 2 sisters, LaRue Wald, and Billie Bagwell.Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Anita Page Ross; 1 daughter, Paula Chitwood of Pocola, Oklahoma; 2 sons, Colonel Retired Mike Ross and wife, Debbie of North Little Rock, Mark Ross & wife Angela of Fort Smith; 1 sister, Betty Sullivan & husband, Tony of Fort Smith; 1 brother, Clinton "Benny" L Ross; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
