John Thomas Wharton, 75, of 115 N. Bellott St. died in a local hospital Saturday afternoon after a short illness. Mr. Wharton was born Nov. 25, 1889 in Rison and was the son of James and Sally Cash Wharton. He had been a resident of El Dorado since 1929 after moving from Malvern. Mr. Wharton was a retired material clerk for the Lion Chemical Plant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 13 F and AM and a Shriner. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ida Mae DeBord Wharton; one daughter, Mrs. Maxwell Prothro of El Dorado; one son John Vernon Wharton of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, L. A. Wharton of Chattanooga, Tenn. and W. K. Wharton of Walnut Ridge. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Young's Chapel with Dr. Don Harbuck officiating. Interment followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. (The El Dorado Times - March 29, 1965)
