Ira Edgar Covington, 74, of 1214 Gray Ave., died Tuesday night at a local hospital after a long illness. Born in Murfreesboro, Ark., Dec. 19, 1889, he was the son of Jerome and Eva Ward Covington. A retired lather contractor, he had been a resident of Union County since 1923, A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Graves Covington, El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Alvah Hicks, Murfreesboro; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Durwood Penry officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's.
