Margaret Susan Warren was born in Oark, Arkansas, on November 22, 1942, with Doc Floyd delivering her. She was born in a little green house on the Old Lax Place, that many people now call McGuire Field. By the Mulberry River, her parents, Ralph and Bessie Case Warren raised their 8 children, grew fields of corn, sweet potatoes, beans and many other crops to sustain their large growing family. She had 4 older siblings, Ruby, Iva Lois, Ralph, Jr, and Plesse. Ralph and Bessie would farm an area and then move to another farm as their family continued to grow. 14 months after Margaret, came Douglas MacArthur, then a few years later, Betty, then the last to be born was Thomas. Because of the short distance in age between Margaret and Douglas, Ruby, who was 12 years older would help take care of Margaret and they grew very close, and were best of friends throughout their lives. All of the children attended Oark School and Margaret graduated in 1960. She married John Alexander Hubbard on May 19, 1962. They had 2 daughters, Janet and Annette. They divorced in 1968, and Margaret met and married James Leon Vanderford and had 3 children, Timothy, Mark and Veronica. Margaret moved back to Oark after divorcing James in 2003. She built her a house on the land that her father and mother had left her. She loved living in her little house and was very happy there. She enjoyed being a in-home caregiver and took care of many people, notably Nathan Green Gordon, a Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas, who was also given a Medal of Honor in WWII. I was going to see her the morning she died from a blood clot on August 13, 2017. Psalm 91-“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.”
