Mrs. Walter L. Goodwin, 94, of 613 East Third St., member of a pioneer Union County family, died early Thursday in a local nursing home following a six month illness. Born at Champagnolle Jan. 13, 1877, the daughter of Clark Alonzo and Mary Langford Suggs, Mrs. Goodwin was the former Olive Langford Suggs. She was a graduate of Harding College, Mexico, Mo., Ouachita College, Arkadelphia, and Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. She taught in the Ouachita College Conservatory of Music before her marriage to the late Mr. Goodwin, who was mayor of El Dorado for several years. Mrs. Goodwin was a member of First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado Self Culture Club and Union County Chapter of Arkansas Pioneers. She is survived by a son, W. Shannon Goodwin, and a daughter, Mrs. R. E. Meinert, both of El Dorado; also five grandchildren, Hugh M Goodwin, Mrs. Marianne Meinert Mackey and Michael S Meinert, all of El Dorado, and Richard L. Meinert and Joseph G. Meinert, both of New Orleans; and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services have been announced for Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Shepperson and Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. The family will be at the R. E. Meinert home, 711 Champagnolle St. Pallbearers will be Hugh M. Goodwin, Richard L. Meinert, Joseph G. Meinert, Michael S. Meinert, Harry B. Sengel and John Alley. The family requests that memorial be sent to the Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Home in Monticello.
