LANE, Samuel - {from the Hindsville Democrat, 10th inst.} Mr. Samuel Lane passed quietly away at his home at this place at 7 o'clock Thursday evening, August 3, 1893. He had been slowly but surely declining under advanced age and general infirmities for several months. His appetite finally gave way to that extent that he could scarcely bear the mention of any kind of food. He often expressed himself as ready and willing to depart this life and at last even desirous of doing so. He leaves a good wife of advanced years, a number of worthy sons and daughters and a host of grand and great grandchildren to mourn his loss. But from the exemplary life he led there is no doubt that their loss is his eternal gain. He was a devoted husband, a kind father, an exemplary citizen and a friend and patron of everything that is generous and noble. Mr. Lane, was the second son of Thos. R. Lane, who was a native of Tennessee and who came to this country with his family in 1832. He was born in Warren County, Tenn. Dec. 16, 1817. In 1841 he married Nancy Vaughan and owning nothing but one span of ponies and their household goods, the young couple began married life. They finally accumulated about 700 acres of land which they divided among their nine children. He joined the Masonic fraternity at a very early date and took great interest in the order so long as he was able to attend its meetings. He had been for years a consistent member of the Free Will Baptist Church and loved to discourse upon the truths of the Bible and its consoling promises. His acquaintances were all his friends.
