Mr. James R. Wignall, age 88 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Adams Street Nursing Center.
Jim was born November 5, 1924 in Mystic, Iowa the son of John and Jesse Wilson Wignall. He was married on June 13, 1948 in Jericho, Iowa to Thelma G. Gordon who preceded him in death on July 19, 1997.
He graduated from Melrose High School, Melrose, Iowa and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with a degree in electrical engineering.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific on a PBY aircraft flying rescue and reconnaissance missions.
Jim was employed with I.B.M. for thirty-three years retiring as Branch Manager in Des Moines, Iowa in 1983.
He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Edgemont, Arkansas.
He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, boating, and especially his garden. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include: two sons, Craig A. Wignall of Raymore, Mo. and Bruce L. Wignall and his wife Pam of Edwards, Colorado; one daughter, Cheryl L. Adams and her husband Charlie of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Melissa McLauchlin of Overland Park, Kansas, Stefanie DeWolf of the Colony, Texas, Joshua Wignall of Raymore, Mo., Jessica Wignall of Raymore, Mo., and Austin Wignall of Los Angeles, California; nine great grandchildren, Ryder and Hunter McLauchlin, Karley and Cyrus DeWolf, Mason and Kaden Wignall, and Jaylen, D’Anthony, and Taliyah Nevins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 am Wednesday, September 4, 2013.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Bruce Edwards officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the memorial service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
