Mary Ann Jane Talley was the daughter of Robertson Perry Talley & Lucinda Stanfield. She and her family migrated from Rayburn Creek, Wayne County, Tennessee, by ox-wagon with several others, to Landis, Searcy County, Arkansas.

She married Peter Martin in March 1866. They had the following children (in order of birth):
Thomas Peyton, Lucinda Mary Caroline, and Jesse Gee. She also had a step-son by Peter's first marriage to Rachel Shipman, William Matthew "Math." The birthdate on the headstone is possibly incorrect. Official records give 6 September 1834 as Mary's date of birth.
Mary Martin's husband, Peter W. Martin and his 1st wife Rachael Shipman Martin had 10 children before Rachael's death in 1864
