Nelda Cater, 84 of Shreveport, LA, passed away on July 3, 2017 in her home at the Chateau Montclair. She was born in Taylor, AR on June 23, 1934, to the late Clyde and Eulalia Smith. Nelda lived a long and beautiful life and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She embraced life to the fullest and loved everyone that came into her life. Her greatest joy was spending time surrounded by her beloved family and friends. Nelda will be missed dearly and will always be remembered for her joyful spirit and her incredible ability to quickly make friends wherever she went.
Her family and friends are at peace knowing that she is with our Lord and no longer in pain. Nelda is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ray T. Cater of Haynesville, LA.; her three children, Steven Clyde Cater and his wife Kathryn Gallagher of Flushing, MI; Starla Cater Ruello and her husband Robert (Rocky) Ruello of Madison, MS.; and Kevin Lee Cater and his wife Rachel Nadler Cater of Cypress, TX; her eight grandchildren, Kristin Rachel Cater, Rachel Ruello Corkern (Christopher), Scott Kevin Cater (Elizabeth), Renée Ruello Posecai (Julian), Michael Zachary Cater (Courtney), Daniel Timothy Cater (Hannah), Robin Alysse Ruello, and Ryan Patrick Cater; her five great-grandchildren, Levin Emerson Tuma, Austin Michael Cater, Ben Jamison Leisure, Cody Dwayne Cater, and Nash Andrew Stevens; and her two sisters, Patsy (Pat) Smith Kissire (Weldon) of Little Rock, AR and Jerrie Smith Cannon (Travis) of Ashdown, AR. The family would like to give special acknowledgement and thanks to the incredible staff at the Chateau Montclair for their compassionate and attentive care for Nelda. They loved Nelda as much as she loved them. They have become our extended family who helped us get through many difficult times for which we are truly thankful and blessed. Visitation will be held at Taylor United Methodist Church in Taylor, AR, on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M., followed by a Celebration of Life service.
Interment will be at Taylor Cemetery following the service under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, AR.
