SPRINGDALE — Becky Walkinshaw Knight, age 63, passed away July 30, 2013, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She was born May 1, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Tom Lew and Helen Hortense Hitt Walkinshaw.

Becky was born in Kansas City, Mo., and was raised in Columbus, Kan. While in school in Columbus she was always in a leadership role. Becky graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University.

She married Virgil Knight in 1970 and lived in Russellville, Ark.; Atlanta, Ga.; Auburn, Ala.; Gainesville, Fla.; and Green Bay, Wis. Becky most recently lived in Springdale, Ark., and was a special education teacher at Woodland Junior High School in Fayetteville for almost 20 years.

During this time, Becky made lifelong friends. Being friends with Becky was an easy thing to do. Becky was kind, compassionate, strong, and very willing to help her friends. If you were a friend or family member of Becky's, and you needed help, you called Becky. She would listen, ask questions, gain understanding and take the lead in the solution. She was our "go to" person and she will be greatly missed.

Becky's passion was for her family. She was blessed to have her sons, Josh and Trent, and their families living in the Fayetteville area. Trent and his wife Christina have two sons, Zachary and Reece. Josh and his wife Andrea have one daughter, Emerson, and another daughter on the way. Becky lived for her children, grandchildren, and her family and friends. Becky loved people and being with her friends. She liked to travel with one of her favorite destinations being Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Becky's special blend of talents made her perfect for her career as a special education teacher. She could be kind and compassionate while at the same time expecting high performance from her students. Her students had great respect and love for "Ms. Knight."

In short, it is impossible to describe the impact that Becky has had on her family and friends over her lifetime. However, if you were blessed to have her in your life you know that her impact will last forever.

Becky is survived by two sons, Trent Knight and his wife Christina of Fayetteville, Ark., and Josh Knight and his wife Andrea of Fayetteville, Ark.; three sisters, Cindy Rush of Webb City, Mo., Kathy O'Malley and her husband Mike of Lee's Summit, Mo., Janie Tanner and her husband Gary of Lawrence, Kan.; and one brother, Tom Walkinshaw and his wife Lola of Joplin, Mo., and three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. John Robbins officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Becky Knight Memorial Fund c/o Arvest Bank, 2761 E. Mission Blvd., Fayetteville, AR 72702. Contributions will be donated to Fayetteville Public School students in need to continue Becky's legacy of caring for special needs children.
