Mary E. Simmons, 93, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, formerly of Ozark, died Monday, June 6, 2016 in Arkansas Veterans Home at Fayetteville.
She was born July 19, 1922 in Holly Grove, West Virginia to Raymond and Bertha Mae Fauber Midkiff.

She was a retired teacher, a member of First United Methodist Church in Ozark, and was a graduate of College of the Ozarks in 1952 with a BSE, served with the United States Navy WAVES from 1942 to 1945 and on May 25, 1945 was married to James Simmons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James O. Simmons, Jr. ; two sisters, Ruby MacCameron and Margaret Midkiff.

Mary taught school for thirty years at Ozark High School, Ozark Jr. High and Ozark Middle School, Mulberry Elementary, Web City Elementary, Charleston Elementary, and Cedarville Elementary, as classroom teacher and as reading specialist and librarian.

She is survived by a daughter, Maenette LaRue and husband Barney of Mountainburg, Arkansas, and a son Gregory Simmons of Houston Texas; a sister Kathy Methfessel of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren, Emily Simmons Ritzwoller of Denton, Texas; , Daniel Simmons of Katy, Texas; and Chad LaRue of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and four great grandchildren, Allie Ritzwoller, Alley LaRue, and Daniel and Amelia Simmons.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Highland Cemetery in Ozark with Brother Justin Allen officiating under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
