When Newton Henry Young was born on June 19, 1913, in Illinois, his father, Charles, was 38 and his mother, Margaret, was 32. He married Martha Jane "Mattie" Chatham on September 13, 1937, in Arkansas, Arkansas. They had one child during their marriage. He died on October 29, 1985, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, at the age of 72.

When Martha Jane "Mattie" Chatham was born on February 19, 1914, in Crocketts Bluff, Arkansas, her father, William, was 35, and her mother, Annie, was 28. She married William Park Huddleston and they had one son together. She then married Newton Henry Young and they had one daughter together. She died on May 3, 1989, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, at the age of 75, and was buried in De Witt, Arkansas.
