December 28, 1896 - August 29, 1965
William P. Smead, 68, died in a Camden hospital Sunday morning after a brief illness. He was a former sheriff and treasurer of Ouachita County, was a graduate of Camden High School and the University of Arkansas, played semi-pro baseball for several years, was associated with the drug business in Camden for several years and owner of the Camden Novelty Co. Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Vivian Jackson Smead, Camden; one son, William J. Smead, Camden; one daughter, Miss Anna Smead, Camden; one brother, Leonard C. Smead, Camden; three sisters, Miss Ritchie Smead, Camden, Miss Anna Smead, Camden, and Mrs. Rose McGill, Santa Fe, N.M. Funeral services were held Monday at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Proctor Funeral Home of Camden. (The El Dorado Times - August 30, 1965)
