William Franklin Herring Jr., 80, of Conway, passed away on Monday (Aug. 29, 2005) at Heritage Nursing Center.

Herring was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Warren, Ark., a son of the late William Franklin Herring, Sr. and Naomi Belle Rogers Herring.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II. There he received many medals, including a purple heart. He retired from General Motors Corporation as a finance manager. During his pastime, he enjoyed playing golf and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Herring; and a sister, Jeanne Hilton.

Herring is survived by three children, William F. Herring III and wife Susan of Houston, Texas; Steve Herring and wife Ann of Conway; and Dr. Sarah Sullivan of Mountain View; eight grandchildren, Monica Herring, William Herring IV, Brooke and Kristine Feagin, Michael, Katherine, Carolyn and Rebecca Herring.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at Oak Grove Cemetery.
