Rev. David B. Rice, 81, of Conway passed away on Sunday, October 04, 2015 at Conway Regional Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1934, in Tupelo, Arkansas, Jackson County. He was a Baptist Minister for 66 years. He began preaching when he was 15 years old.
He pastored Baptist Churches in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Arkansas. He served on various committees in the National, State, and Local Associations in the BMA work. His last pastorate was Lakeview Baptist Church, Mayflower. He attended Central Baptist College, Arkansas State Teachers College, (UCA) and has a master of Theology degree from the American Bible School, Kansas City, MO. He did extensive evangelistic work and preached in 21 states in the U.S. and two foreign countries. He was instrumental in organizing 3 Baptist Churches. He authored several booklets and pamphlets on various Bible subjects and wrote a historic novel about his family all of the way from the early 1800’s to the Twentieth Century.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janada, of 53 years, his parents: Austin E. Rice, Sr. and Clara “Burton” Rice, three sisters: Lindell “Rice” Morris, Ruth “Rice” Stewart, Doyce Eloise Rice, and a brother: Austin E. Rice, Jr.
He is survived by four children: Rev. Wayne Rice, wife Carole, from Laurel, MS. Jana “Rice” Hefner, husband Jay, Phillip Rice, wife Angela, and Jeff Rice, all of Conway. There are 7 grandchildren, and 5 Great-grandchildren.
Service will be at Antioch Baptist Church, Amity Rd. here in Conway at 11am on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 with his son, Bro. Wayne Rice, Bro. Donny Parrish and Dr. Jason Aultman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flower, memorials can be sent to Central Baptist College, Conway, AR.
Pallbearers will be Greg Hughes, Steve Wiles, Dr. David Martin, Eddie Glover, Tom Byram and Don Byram.
Edna Janada Rice went to her heavenly home from the Conway Regional Hospital, December 26, 2012. at the age of 77 years. She was born October 28,1935 to the late Owen T. Wiles and Eva Wiles in Izard County, AR.
She was a committed Christian and was active in the churches where her husband was Pastor. She was married to Rev. David Rice for 56 yrs., and 4 children were born to them. Rev. Wayne Rice and wife Carole, of Picayune, MS, Mrs. Jana Hefner and husband Jay Hefner, Phillip Rice and his wife Angela, and Jeff Rice all of Conway. She is survived by her husband and the 4 children, with 7 Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Grand Children. She is also survived by a Sister, Mrs. Marie Byrarn and a brother Ancil Wiles & his wife Betty, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was an accomplished musician having taught piano, voice, and music in the Brockwell Stamps Baxter Music School in Izard County, AR, and was a church pianist and organist in several churches where her husband was Pastor. Her greatest joy was, after she retired here in Conway, to play the piano and sing at home. She worked in the schools in Mississippi, and was active in church work all of her life.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 29, at 11:00 A.M. at the Antioch Baptist Church, 150 Amity Rd., Conway with Bro. Jason Aultman & Bro. Donny Parrish officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 A.M. till service time. Roller McNutt Funeral Home, Conway, in charge of arrangements. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.
