Mrs Mary Landers Dies at Age of 90 Years
Mrs Mary Jeffery Landers died at her home at Mount Olive, Sunday afternoon at 6 o'clock, at the age of 90 years. Her death followed an illness of several weeks, prior to which she had been in exceptionally good health for one of her age. Deceased was a life long resident of Izard county, being born at Mount Olive January 6, 1850. On March 16, 1881, she was married to Capt. H. B. Landers, who passed away in 1908. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, having lived a most devout Christian life since her affiliation with that church in early life. Mrs Landers was known to a wide circle of friends in all parts of the county, and was loved and respected by all. She was truly a noble woman who lived her religion and ennobled every life with which she came into contact. Funeral services were held in the family home, Monday at 3 p.m., funeral services being conducted by her pastor, Rev D. R. Robertson, assisted by Rev G. W. Thompson of Fayetteville. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. All her offspring were present at her funeral, the three sons and four grandsons being pallbearers. Interment was in Mount Olive cemetery. Surviving, are three sons, Ewing, Ernest and Orian Landers of Mt. Olive; three daughters, Mrs C. M. Shannon of Batesville, Mrs F. L. Saffell of Mt Olive, and Mrs L. B. McCasland of Mansfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren' two step-sons and one step-daughter, L. G. Landers of Oklahoma City, R. S. Landers of Dublin, Texas and Mrs T. O. Gray of Temple, Texas. One brother, R. J. Jeffery, now of Mt Olive, alone survives from a large family of fifteen children.
