Gurden Dean Phillips, 91, of the Denton community, died Jan. 18, 2011, at his home.
Born May 15, 1919, he was the son of George and Lucy Walker Phillips**. He was a retired tool and die maker and cattle farmer. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Pierce Phillips, Russel Phillips, Noel Phillips and Chesser Phillips; and three sisters, Lala Wilson, Linnie Jones and Lois Henderson.
Survivors include his wife Juanita Culver Phillips, whom he married Oct. 30, 1943; two sons, Gary Phillips and wife Karen, Denton, and Danny Phillips and wife Lesia, Black Rock; four grandchildren, Jennifer Haskins, Ryan Phillips, Austin Phillips and Clay Phillips; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Bros. Harold Russell and Randy Williams officiating. Burial was in Holobaugh Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Ryan Phillips, Austin Phillips, Clay Phillips, Elden Henderson, Charles Blankenship and Clay Blankenship.

Black Rock- Juanita Louise Phillips, 94, passed away Friday, April 2, 2020 at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge. Born September 16, 1925 near Denton, she was the daughter of Perry Douglas and Mary Elizabeth (Beary) Culver. During WWII she packed parachutes at Great Bend, Kansas for soldiers preparing for combat. After the war, she returned to Denton and was a homemaker. Juanita was a member of New Hope Baptist Church near Smithville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gurden Phillips; a son, Danny Phillips; her parents, Douglas and Mary Elizabeth (Beary) Culver; a brother, Donald Culver; a sister, Aileen Mount.
Survivors include a son, Gary Phillips and wife, Karen of Black Rock; a sister, Ella Oleva Jackson of Jonesboro; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Lesia Phillips of Black Rock.
Graveside services will be Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Holobaugh Cemetery near Black Rock at 2 p.m. Harold Russell will officiate. All arrangements are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Clay Phillips, Austin Phillips, Ryan Phillips, Lynn Haskins, Joe Wallis, and Daniel Sloan.
