Samuel H. Guinn Dies Here Today at 85
Samuel Houston Guinn, 85, former Washington county sheriff and Fayetteville chief of police for several years, died at his home at 215 N. Locust at 11:10 a.m. today.
Funeral services will be held at Moore's funeral chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Rev. L. M. Starkey in charge. Burial will be at Park cemetery, Winslow, at 2 p.m.
Mr. Guinn was born in Breathitt county, Ky., December 25, 1857. He was married January 1, 1883, to Sarilda Jane Nickell, who died seven years ago. Since her death he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Bertha Jones.
He was a member of the Methodist church and a charter member of the Masonic Lodge at Winslow. He came to Winslow in 1880 and was a farmer near there until he moved to Fayetteville n 1914. He served as sheriff or Washington county for two terms, 1923-27, and was chief of the Fayetteville police force for several years.
He is survived by four children: Lemuel of Fayetteville, John of Goshen, Mrs. J.F. Cook and Mrs. Bertha Jones of Fayetteville; by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Rachel Guinn of Fort Smith; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
