Elizabeth Rowland, one of the oldest settlers of Union county, died at the home of her son, Dr. E. F. Rowland, near Lapile at an early hour Saturday morning, October 17, of semile weakness. "Grandma" Rowland, as she was known to her hundreds of friends and acquaintances, was born in Newberry, Alabama, in 1826 and came to Union county in 1848, having resided here continuously since. She was a devout Methodist and was loved by all who knew her. The funeral was held at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. J. R. Rushing, of this place and interment took place in the old Lapile church cemetery. She leaves one son and a host of grandchildren and friends to mourn her death. (The Huttig News - October 24, 1914)
