January 13, 1957 - November 18, 1967
Michael Wayne Russell, age 10, of Strong, fatally shot himself in the upper right chest around 3 p.m. Saturday. The accident took place while the boy was deer hunting nine miles west of Strong at the Hawk Norris place. He was taken to an El Dorado hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:55 p.m. Dr. John Henry Pinson, Union County coroner, said the youth had just alighted from a truck in which he was riding, when the shotgun he was carrying accidentally discharge. Born at El Dorado, Jan. 13, 1967, he was the son of Wayne Benson and Norma Vera Burson Russell. Survivors include his parents, three brothers, John Benson Russell, Anthony Eric Russell and Jeffrey Todd Russell, all of Strong, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Burson, El Dorado, his maternal grandfather, A. V. Burson, Strong, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Opal Temple, Warren and his great grandfather, A. C. Russell, Sr., Strong. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Strong with the Rev. S. M. Williamson officiating. Interment followed in the Strong Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Pallbearers were John Burson, Elliott Burson, Maxey Russell, A. C. Russell, Jr., John Lee Jones and Clyde Burson. (El Dorado Times - November 20, 1967)
