February 14, 1901 - January 26, 1968
Mrs. Ruth Butcher Westmoreland, 66, of Strong, died Friday morning in a hospital in Monroe, La., following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 14, 1901 in Waldo, she was the daughter of Henry I. and Henrietta McCargo Butcher. A resident of Union County for the past 33 years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Strong and a member of the T. E. L. Sunday School class of the church. Survivors include her husband, C. W. Westmoreland of Strong; one son, James Westmoreland, Diboll, Tex.; one daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Bird, Bossier City, La.; two brothers, Robert Butcher, Stephens, and Howard Butcher, Bastrop, La.; three sisters, Mrs. Lossie Kelley, Spearsville, La., Mrs. Lois Bradshaw, and Mrs. Dewey Watkins, both of Waldo; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Strong with the Rev. S. M. Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the Strong Cemetery under the direction of Young's. (El Dorado Times - January 27, 1968)
