COWDEN, Clarissa C. WILLIAMS - Clarissa C. Williams was born in Benton county, Arkansas on July 13, 1855 near Bentonville. She was married to Henry Cowden in the year of 1880. To them were born five children, two boys, Robert of Highfill, Ark. and L.D. of Healing Springs, and three girls, Mrs. Della Evans of Bentonville, Ark., Mrs. Maggie Downum of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Mrs. Minnie Mason of Highfill, Ark. They made several trips to Texas and it was while in Texas and the children very small that Mr. Cowden passed away. They returned to Benton county, Arkansas and moved to their old home where they remained for a number of years, the place that Mrs. Dr. Hubbard now occupies. Mrs. Cowden was the daughter of David and Margaret Williams, pioneer settlers of Tennessee. She was converted at an early age and joined the Missionary Baptist church at Old Temperance Hill. She lived a devout Christian life. She was confined to her bed on Nov. 26, 1916 and died at the home of her son, Robert Cowden of Highfill, on January 17, 1925. Mother Cowden, as she was known by all, was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She was greatly afflicted but was a patient sufferer for seven long years. She was so kind and cheerful that it was a great pleasure to sit by her bedside and talk with her. Bro. E.F. Rice, the pastor of the Baptist church, conducted the service. A Friend.

{from Highfill} Mother Cowden passed away at the home of her son, Robert Cowden, on Saturday, January 17th, 1925 at about 6 o'clock in the evening. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church at 11 o'clock on Monday and she was laid to rest in the Phillips cemetery by the side of her little niece, Reba Cowden, daughter of L.D. Cowden. Brother Rice, the pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated. Everyone who knew her could not help but love her. She had been in constant pain for a great many years and her suffering had been beyond words; although no matter how severe her pain she always had a smile and kind words for everyone who went to see her. Her children were all present at the funeral.
