SPRINGDALE — Robert Bruce Montgomery, age 89, of Springdale, went to be with the Lord, April 12, 2014, at the Maples in Har-Ber Meadows. He was born July 11, 1924, in Alabam, Ark., the son of Den and Blanche Newton Montgomery. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed reading, watching baseball, especially the Cubs, listening to Big Band music and family gatherings. He worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Pel Freeze after his retirement from the armed forces. Mr. Montgomery joined the United States Army where he served during World War II in the South Pacific. After being discharged from the Army, he joined the Air National Guard, serving during the Korean Conflict and the Battle of Luzon, and retired from the US. Air Force in 1982. He was privileged to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial. He is preceded by his father, Den Montgomery; his mother and stepfather, Blanche and Neil Feller; a son, Terry Baty; a daughter, Pat Long; a brother, J.D. Montgomery; a sister, Barbara Fowler; a son-in-law, George Gutlovics; and a granddaughter, Monica Gutlovics.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mabel McCollough Montgomery, of the home; one son, Doug Montgomery and his wife, Sandy, of Highlandville, Mo.; three daughters, Sharon Gutlovics of Highlandville, Mo.; Sherry Bowman and her husband, Ron, of Springdale, and Tammy Ames and her husband, Steve, of Springdale; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Gary Morris officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dustin Kelley, Jason Ames, Marcus Ames, Matt Montgomery, Lance McClung and James Bell.
