Her family and lifelong friends of Springdale dearly loved Mary. Although she retired from nursing professionally at Springdale Memorial Hospital many years ago, she continued to dedicate her life to caring for others.

She was born to Ira Monroe and Lillie Upton on Aug. 4, 1930. She is survived by a wonderful and devoted husband, Clyde Steele of Springdale; one dear sister, Dora Wilson of Avoca; her two loving brothers, Ira Upton of Springdale and Frank Upton of Rogers; six children, Linda Baker of Springdale, Norman Perry of Fayetteville, Barbara Petrini of Goshen, Many Lou Farmer of Salina, Okla., and Joe Landers and wife Robyn of Lowell; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

At her request, she passed on surrounded by her family and loved ones, with her son Joe and daughter-in-law Robyn at her bedside.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peaceful Valley Baptist Church in Springdale with the Rev. Bill Pettigrew officiating.

Burial will be in Little Flock Cemetery under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be John Farmer, John Welsh, Jason Nixon, Nevin Coch, Whitney Landers and Larry Nelsen.
