SILOAM SPRINGS - Carroll Clyde ("CC") Varner passed away peacefully on May 8, 2015, at the Washington Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by his brother Herb and sister-in-law Pat of Highfill, son, Bruce of Antioch, Ill.; daughter, Gail and son-in-law Robert Holman of Siloam Springs, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

CC was born in Vaughan on March 12, 1930, to Eldon (Buck) Varner and Opal Varner (nee Powell).

He and Herb had a younger brother Dennis, deceased in 1970. CC graduated high school in Hiwassee, is a University of Arkansas alum, and did post graduate work at Texas Christian University. He was married to Betty Jean Varner (nee Stevens) of Gravette until her death in 2009.

CC was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Drill Instructor and a Demolitions Engineer for the United States Army. He attended the University on the GI Bill. After graduation, he took a job with Conoco Oil and had assignments in Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico.

He attended the University of New Mexico School of Law, and then began his second career in municipal finance. He served with the City of Albuquerque, N.M., and retired as Director of Finance for the City of Las Vegas, Nev.

He remained active in local politics after retirement, serving on the Lone Mountain CAC in Las Vegas, as well as the Board of Directors of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. He was also a skilled poker player, known simply as "CC" throughout the poker rooms in Las Vegas.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 15 at 1 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. A visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. Arrangements are under the care of Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville.

LAS VEGAS — Betty Varner, 78, died Jan. 31, 2009, at her home. She was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Bristow, Okla., to Carl and Lena Stevens.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pamela Joy.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll Varner, a son, Bruce Varner; a daughter, 11 grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Gravette. Burial will follow at Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulphur Springs.
