Jonesboro- William Walter Gammon, 94, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at his residence.
He was born January 19, 1915 in Quitman to the late William and Amanda Gammon. William served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a lifetime resident of the Egypt and Jonesboro area. He retired from Arkansas Glass Container Corp. and was also a farmer and of the Pentecostal belief. Mr. Gammon loved fishing, hunting, gardening and walking his dog.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Charles and Joan Gammon of Jonesboro; a daughter, Fredia Meridith of Jonesboro; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Freecy Agnes Gammon; two sons, Gary Dale Gammon and Danny Gammon and several brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Markham Cemetery near Egypt with Rev. Leroy Franks officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21, 2009, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
The family requests lasting memorial be given to the donor's favorite charity.
