*Obituary
Mrs. Lula Thornton, wife of Will Thornton was born in Nevada County, Ark., 1872 and died July 11, 1919. Nearly all of her days were spent in Nevada County, and in early life was married to W. R. Thornton. Eleven children were born to this union, 3 children had preceeded her to the heavenly home. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, two sons, three daughters and a baby and a host of friends. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and a kind neighbor. She was a faithful member of the Holiness Baptist church at Sutton. The vacant chair is missed at the fireside and the vacant place at the table. She was ready to help the sick at all times. Her remains were escorted to the cemetery at Harmony church by a host of friends. Her funeral was preached by Bros. John White and George Ward. Thou art gone our precious mother never more canst thou return, Thour shall sleep a peaceful slumber till the resurrection morn, When a few more years have rolled and life's evening bells have tolled we shall gather one by one when life's journey here is done, and that harbor we attain free from sorrow, care and pain. We'll weep no more on that fair shore when we gather home. By her friend, Charles M. Andres. (Nevada County Picayune - July 17, 1919)
