[Richard married first, Vivian L. Terry on 14 Mar 1917. Vivian and their infant, Ethel, died in 1919 and were buried in Hope Cemetery at Imboden, AR. When the decennial census was taken in April 1930, Richard was enumerated as a widower living in his mother's home in Imboden.

Richard's parents were Henry Walton Abee and Isabelle Ethel Byers Abee; Lottie's parents were Arthur and Eugenia Sharp.
