Mary Helen Mullen, 77, a devoted wife and mother, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 19, 2010 at Huguley Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burleson, Texas, following a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was born on Nov. 19, 1932 in DeWitt to the late J.Y. and Ethel Henderson.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday at First Baptist church with interment at DeWitt Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

After graduating from high school in 1950, Mary Helen began working at First National Bank in DeWitt. On August 31, 1951, she met James Mullen, who had recently moved to DeWitt. They were married on Dec. 8, 1951 and remained devoted to each other until his death in 2001. Following her retirement, she and James enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, volunteering their services at Shady Lake Campground in Ouachita National Forest, the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron of the OES and Southern Senator of Williams Baptist College. She was also a dedicated Sunday School teacher and loved worshiping the Lord through singing Gospel music.

She is survived by two sons, Terry Mullen and his wife, Sharla of Canyon Lake, Texas and Steve Mullen and his wife, Charlice of Burleson, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Chris Mullen of Slaton, Texas, Kaci Mullen of Canyon Lake, Texas, Melissa Scott and her husband, Dr. Stephen Scott of Doha, Qatar, Emily Meredith and her husband, Gary of Hapeville, Ga., and Matthew Hill and his wife, Jennifer of Burleson, Texas. She is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Ray Henderson and his wife, Mary of Searcy, Ark., John C. Henderson and his wife, Peggy of Decatur, Ark.; two sister, Kay Marshall and her husband, Dan of Texarkana, Texas and Sue Rush and her husband, Joe of Texarkana, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mullen; mother and father, J.Y. and Ethel Henderson; sister and brohter-in-law, Carolyn and Doyle Eakin.

The family requests that memorials be made to Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
