Mrs. Eddie Lee Polk, 73, of Smackover died in an El dorado hospital at 3 a.m. Tuesday after a long illness. Mrs. Polk was born in Bowie County, Tex., Dec. 22, 1891, the daughter of J. J. and Elizabeth Cornet Bowman. She had been a resident of Smackover for the last 40 years and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Smackover. Surviving are her husband, Carl M. Polk; a son, Berle G. Polk of Smackover; a daughter, Mrs. Merle P. Barron of Farmerville, La.; two brothers, J. H. Bowman of Whipple, Ariz., and Chris Bowman of Shreveport; a sister, Mrs. Mittie Elkins of Ruston, La.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services has been announced for Wednesday at 2:30 in the First Methodist Church of Smackover, with the Rev. Harold Sadler and the Rev. D. C. McAtee officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Daniel, Leonard Williams, Paul Brock, Eddie Lewis, John McDonald, and Alma Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Bell and deacons of the First Baptist Church of Smackover. (The El Dorado Times - July 6, 1965)
