Walton McGinnis the son of Earl Napoleon McGinnis and Delia Long McGinnis. Barbara Carolyn (McLeod) McGinnis the daughter of Kenneth Durward McLeod and Myrtle Eunice (Davis) McLeod.

IMBODEN -- Walton McGinnis of Imboden died Friday, June 27, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

IMBODEN -- Funeral services for Walton McGinnis, 72, of Imboden, formerly of Peoria, Ill., who died Friday, June 27, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Imboden, with Tracy Martin, Harold Russell and Eric Hovind officiating.

Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery at Imboden under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers will be Kent Andrew Hovind, Eric Hovind, Paul Jewell, Dave McLeod, Bobby Hickman and Larry Coleman.

Born in Dearborn, Mich., he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Imboden, serving several years as chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. He served as Deacon of Second Baptist Church of Peoria for more than 20 years. He retired as executive director of Imboden Housing Authority, receiving five Presidential Awards for Outstanding Administrative Achievements.

McGinnis retired from Caterpillar, Inc., in Peoria as a supervisor after 31 years. He was a Mason and an Army veteran of the Korean War. McGinnis was involved in many community activities, serving for 10 years on the Lawrence County Fair board and 10 years on the Hope Cemetery board.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Carolyn McGinnis of the home; one son, Michael Alan McGinnis of Peoria; one daughter, Jo Delia Hovind of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Virginia Dutlinger of Peoria; six grandchildren, Terra McGinnis, Stephanie McGinnis and Tamara McGinnis, all of Peoria, and Kent Andrew, Eric Hovind and Marlissa Jewell, all of Pensacola; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and birth mother, Earl and Delia Long McGinnis; mother, Maude White McGinnis; one sister; and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church at Imboden, with Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Imboden building fund.

IMBODEN — Barbara Carolyn McGinnis of Imboden, born Jan. 24, 1937, graduated to heaven on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, having finished her course as set by her savior, Jesus Christ.

As a family, we are grateful that she has been reunited with her husband, Walton McGinnis, her parents KD and Myrtle McLeod, her great-grandchild, Annie Grace Lange, and many, many other friends and loved ones.

Carolyn's surviving family members include daughter, Jo Hovind of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Michael McGinnis of Imboden; brother and wife, Billy Gene and Margot McLeod of Clarksville; brother and wife, Larry and Mary Lea McLeod of Imboden; son-in-law, Kent Hovind of Pensacola; daughter-in-law, Stacey McGinnis of Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren including Kent Andrew Hovind and wife Danielle, Eric Hovind and wife Tanya, Marlissa Dublin and husband Paul, Terra Lange and husband Aaron, Stephanie McGinnis and Tammie Flores and husband Thomas; great-grandchildren including Stephanie Hovind, Angie Hovind, Jordan Hovind, Kailey Hovind, Matthew Hovind, Weston Lange, Kyler Lange, Dean Walton Lange and Victor Flores.

Carolyn McGinnis served the Imboden community in many ways since returning to her hometown in 1981. As an employee in McLeod's General Store, her abilities in accounting were invaluable, as well as her helpful smile and spirit, to customers during her 10 years serving beside her brother, Larry McLeod.

As a tax preparer for over 30 years, Carolyn worked tirelessly to help individuals with the task of preparing their annual tax returns. Many elderly and others having fallen on hard times experienced no charge for her services.

As organist for the Imboden Baptist Church for 35 years and the Imboden Methodist Church for five years, hours of preparing music to enhance the worship services were her joyful contribution.

As host and contributing cook for many family and community events, her welcoming home and delicious dishes blessed untold numbers of people.

Carolyn's often silent witness for her savior included helping hands and a prayerful heart for many.

Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Imboden, 405 U.S. 63, with the funeral service celebrating Carolyn's life immediately following at 3 p.m. Pastor Michael Freeman will be officiating the service.

McNabb Funeral Home, 2129 N. Park St., Pocahontas, will be handling funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Cedar Glade Camp, 5671 U.S. 63, Imboden 72434.
