GROVE, Okla. - Dorthy Lee Smith, 83, of Grove died Sept. 23, 2006, at the Grove Nursing Center Skilled Care Unit. She was born on Feb. 1, 1923, in Murphy, Okla., to Tom and Artie Londagin Dill.

She graduated valedictorian from Decatur High School and ran a grocery store in Decatur until moving to Midwest City, Okla., to work for McDonnell Douglas during World War II. After the war, she moved to Little Rock where she received her license from Eaton School of Cosmetology. Afterward, she owned and operated a beauty shop in Siloam Springs and Grove, where she worked until 2003, for a total of 56 years.

She enjoyed cooking and quilting.

She married Harry L. Smith on Feb. 8, 1942.

Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Dr. Jackie L. Smith and wife Sharron of Branson, Mo.; two granddaughters, Sydnie L. Williams of Grove, Whitney L. Duncan of Bentonville; one brother, Wesley Dill of Sallisaw, Okla.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, online at www.wassonfuneralhome.com. The Rev. Wayne Shaw will officiate. Burial will follow at Falling Springs Cemetery near Decatur.
