Interesting McKisick Family History (as written)

David McKisick who homesteaded in the High Top vicinity, west of Bentonville, was born in 1786, and is buried in the family burying ground on the old homestead. He was killed by men known as bush whackers during the Civil War in 1863, states Luther Fletcher, who now occupies the old farm. His son Dan was born in 1817 and served in the Mexican war in 1845, and was Captain in the Civil War of 1861-1865. He died in 1907. Buried in the family cemetery are Dan McKisick and Sophronia, Will Belew and a niece of David McKisick, also a child of this niece.

Will Belew, uncle of Will Belew of Hiwasse was also killed by bush whacker during the war.

According to the testimony of Aunt Sophronia McKisick, the Negro slave that is thought by many to have been buried in this family cemetery, left during the Civil War and never returned, as his former owners thought he might do.

Andrew Callis reported that the soldiers gathered corn grown by the slave on the McKisick farm during the war and fed their horses. This same land produced 40 bushels of corn per acre last year.
