Born Lincoln Co, NC
Died Fort Gibson, IT where he was Commissioner to the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Cherokee, Seminole and Creek Nations. His body was accompanied to his farm by an honor escort of red men and he was buried on his farm near the McKissick Spring (near Bentonville).

This stone is now in the Centerton cemetery, where it was moved about 25 years ago, with the stone at the grave of his wife, Mary Vance Greer. These graves were removed to make way for a garage.

"To the memory of Col. James McKissick, who departed this life on the 12th of January 1848 in the 65th year of his age, in the confidence of a certain faith, in the comfort of a reasonable relision and religious and holy hope of favor with thee our God, and in perfect clarity with the world."

James McKissick, who departed this life on the 8th day of December, 1854, in the 67 year of her age, in full communion with the Catholic Church and of certain faith with comfortable relision and holy hope and favor with the Lord God and charity with the world."
