An overview of a small fenced cemetery located in a field just off of Reed Road on lands formerly known as Rossmere Plantation. Rossmere was owned by George Read and was later run by his wife Susan, according to the 1860 US Federal Census record for Chicot County, Arkansas.
There is one remaining nearly intact brick cairn, as well as the remains of at least one other brick cairn. There is also what appears to be a brick covered grave about 3 feet long.
No headstones were found on the initial visit.
"Rossmere Plantation was later owned by William Thompson Read (1857-1896), son of George Read and Susan Chapman Read. *(William Thompson Read was my great-grandfather.) Family members believe he was buried there, along with infant son George Read (1895-1897). The child's grave had a glass top that cracked years ago, probably gone now. I speculate that the third grave may have been intended for William Thompson Read's wife (Antonia "Tono" Pettit Saunders Read), but she left the property and lived until 1940, and is buried in Lake Village Cemetery.
