Konig, Margie Lee Borchers
passed away on July 14, 2011, at the Weyrich Health Care Center of Westminster Village in Scottsdale. She was 90 years old. Just this May, she had enjoyed seeing her children, grand children, and great grandchildren in Scottsdale to celebrate her birthday. Born on May 20, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, Margie was the daughter of Donnis and Edward Borchers. She grew up in Kansas City, La Grange, IL, and Milwaukee, WI, along with her brother, Wallace (Bud), and sister, Sarah Jane. She graduated from high school in Milwaukee and attended Lyons Township Community College. She married Kenneth E. Konig on September 7, 1940. A devoted mother and wife, Margie enjoyed being active in her church and in public affairs. She and Ken were active members of First Baptist Church in La Grange, IL before founding, with four other families, Christ Church of Oakbrook, IL. She also volunteered to help with campaigns of numerous state and national candidates. Later, she served on the board of We Care in Scottsdale and belonged to the Scottsdale Bible Church. An accomplished artist, Margie filled her home and the homes of friends and family with paintings of the many and different places her life and work had taken her. She and Ken had lived in Milwaukee, WI; La Grange, IL; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Livermore, CA; Anderson Island, WA; and Scottsdale, AZ. She is survived by her brother, Bud Borchers of Westfield, NJ; sister, Sarah Jane Quinn of Palo Alto, CA; daughter, Sherry Jensen of Maumelle, AR; son, Dr. Ken Konig of Santa Barbara, CA; and daughter, Pat Shafer of Mercer Island, WA. She is also survived by three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken. Margie's friends and family will miss her warm and gracious heart, her devout faith in God, her keen artistic eye, her challenging contract bridge skills, her witty sense of humor, her amazing memory, and her open generosity to family and friends as well as to her numerous valued causes. A memorial service for Margie will occur at a later date. Memorial donations
