Mrs. Maddie Martin, age 88, of Widener, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Martin was born April 30, 1918, in the Newcastle community. She was the daughter of John Henry Nichols and Delia Leslie Nichols. She made her home in Widener for most of her life and was the owner/operator of Martin Grocery in Widener. She was also a member of Widener Baptist Church. In 1939, Mrs. Martin married Floyd Martin and he preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by a brother Alvin Nichols of Dekalb, Ill. and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Martin will be held on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery.
