FORT SMITH — Bernard Dale Hyatt, 87, of Fort Smith, formerly of Springdale, died Nov. 27, 2012, in Fort Smith. He was born July 31, 1925, in Valparaiso, Neb., to Dale Austin and Lucy Marie Dye Hyatt.

Bernard retired from Heekin Canning after 46 years. He enjoyed woodworking, hiking and was a nature lover. He was a member of Lowell Baptist Church and an active member of the Lavaca Senior Center. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Graham Hyatt, whom he married March 16, 1954; and a grandson, Russell "Rusty" Moore.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Jackson and husband, Russell T. Jr., of Lavaca; two sisters, Verla Marie Miller and Mavis A. Wilson and husband, Curtis, all of Rogers; two grandchildren, Jackie (Jay) Moore II and Jimmika Wolf and husband, Dale; four great-grandchildren, Jaquelyn Wolf, Andrea Wolf, Chad Moore and Shancy Moore; and one great-great-grandson, Riley Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Burial will follow at Rogers 1 p.m. until service time.
