He was the son of Samuel Roy Fisher and Pearl Kinton Young Fisher Rushid. He lived in Memphis until moving back to Forrest City in 1994. He was retired from Montesia Grocery, a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion and attended the First Baptist Church of Caldwell. He married Geneva Screeton in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 2003. He is survived by a son, Sam Fisher Jr. a daughter, Linda Fisher Devazier, a brother, Thomas Ray Fisher

Mrs. Geneva Screenton Fisher, age 82, of Forrest City, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Fisher was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Brinkley, the daughter of Mike Rushid and Josephine Ford. She lived in Memphis and Forrest City for most of her life and was a sales clerk. Mrs. Fisher married Samuel Y. Fisher Sr. in 1940, and he survives her along with a daughter, Linda Fisher Devazier of Forrest City; a son, Samuel Y. Fisher Jr. of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation services for Mrs. Fisher will be held on Monday, June 23, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Casey officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
