Major Jack Bryan Wildberger, USAF Ret., age 89, of Elaine, Arkansas passed away on March 30, 2009. Jack went home to be with his Heavenly Father after experiencing a brief illness.

Jack was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on May 24, 1919. He finished school at Clarksdale High School and attended Mississippi State University, studying agriculture.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1941 prior to U.S. involvement in WWII, flying fighter planes for the entire conflict. He flew P40’s, P47’s and the P51. He retired to the grade of Major as he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Air Medal, and Bronze Air Medal.

He and his young family settled in Elaine. He taught school in Elaine and later engaged in farming and agricultural aviation.

Jack belonged to the Elaine Methodist Church, where he served as Board Chairman, Lay Leader and Adult Sunday School teacher.

His wife, Helen Peden Wildberger, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, John Bryan Wildberger; a daughter, Edna Wildberger Cureton; and one grandson. He also leaves a very special friend, Ann T. Hill.

Services for Jack Wildberger will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Elaine Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Pastors participating in the service will include Reverend Richard Rogers and Reverend Monty Bell.

Pallbearers are Ben Williams, Poindexter Fiser, James Tucker, Jerry Don Flynn, Lucien Webster, and Steve Toney. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. P. Reddy Tukivakala and Dr. Jim Pillow.
