JESUP -- Earnest J. Roberts, 82, of Jesup died Friday, Dec. 31, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at Saffell, he was a retired farmer, World War II veteran and member of the Poughkeepsie Masonic Lodge. He was of the Methodist belief.

Survivors include four sisters, Ava Ward of Houston, Texas, Ruth'L Harp of Hoxie, Rhundene Melton of Strawberry and Pauline Dyess of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Morgan Roberts; his parents, George and Ada Golf Roberts; six brothers and four sisters.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in Lancaster Cemetery at Strawberry, with the Rev. John Stoll officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

No visitation is planned.

Mabel Jane Roberts, 84, of Smithville, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at White River Medical Center in Batesville. She was born Nov. 23, 1916 in Jesup to George Parker and Belle Turnbow Morgan, Sr.

She was a homemaker and a member of Eli Lindsey Memorial United Methodist Church at Jesup.

Survivors include her husband, Earnest J. Roberts of the home; two nieces, Louise Hutchison of Newark, and Twyla Morgan of Jackson, Tenn.; three nephews, Morgan Douglas of Cord, Fred Morgan of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Joe Morgan of Izmir, Turkey; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank Morgan, Fred Morgan, and George Morgan, Jr.; and one sister, Mamie Douglas.

Services were Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Eli Lindsey Memorial United Methodist Church located at Jesup, with Rev. John Stoll officiating.

Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery located at Strawberry, with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Pallbearers were Charles Goff, Jerry Harp, Edward Bilbrey, Bernard Robbins, Tal Durham, and Charles Wallis.
