Audine Cantwell, 81, of Fort Smith died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Muldrow. She was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Lamar, Colo., the daughter of Ralph and Lucille Cox. The Cox family moved to Fort Smith in the 1920s. She was a graduate of Fort Smith High School class of 1939, and married her high school sweetheart Archie "Buddy" Cantwell on March 17, 1940 in Fort Smith. She had numerous hobbies including the crossword puzzles of the New York Times, which she died in ink. She also enjoyed gardening and crafts. Throughout her life, she attended First United Methodist Church in Barling. She also was a member of United Methodist Women and the Sebastian County Extension Homemakers Club. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Barling Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Fulbright and husband, Larry of Muldrow; a son Larry Cantwell of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Merlene Ballard of Seattle; three grandchildren; Chip Fulbright and his wife, Joanne, Charlie Fulbright and his wife, Kari and Kyle Fulbright; three great-grandchildren, Kristen, Michael and Faith Fulbright. Pallbearers will be Tom Cantwell, Chip, Charlie, and Kyle Fulbright, Charles Davis and Danny Gee. Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis or Fisher House, U.S. Army Medical Command, 2050 Worth Road, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The Fisher House provides temporary lodging for families of seriously ill patients receiving care at military hospital around the world.
