Janice L. Tate, 67, of Lavaca died Sunday, July 4, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Sebastian County. She was a homemaker and attended the Riverdale Freewill Baptist Church. She was the widow of L.J. Tate. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Riverdale Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Island Cemetery northeast of Lavaca under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Taylor of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Kathy West of Lavaca; two sons, Larry Tate of Phoenix and Keith Tate of Jonesboro; two sisters, Mary White of Dardanelle and Bessie Hunter of Fort Smith; a brother, John Freeman of Cecil; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kevin and Josh West, Larry Tate Jr., Eric and Jonathan Schmid, Jerrod House, Jay Billingsley and Dane Douglas. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lavaca First Baptist Church TV Ministry.
