Veda Long

Veda Long, 84, of Rockford, Ill., died Feb. 19, 2011, in Mission, Texas.

Born in Union, she lived in the Walnut Ridge area as a child, before moving to Rockford in 1942. She retired from the Newell Company in 1989 and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Maud Jones Turner; a sister, Nina Johnson; and a brother, Lowell Turner.

Survivors include her husband, John Long; a son, Dennis Johnson and wife Linnea, Taylorsville, Ga.; a sister, Imogene Smith, Imboden; a brother, Kenny "Doyan" Turner, Rockford; two granddaughters, Christina Brown and Kerri Parramoore; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Jerry Clements officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Mike Turner, Larry Fletcher, Burt Brown, Shaun Parramoore, Spencer Bruce and Josh Bruce. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Smith and Jared Brooks.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John R. Long November 25, 1936 - September 19, 2016

John R. Long, 79, of Rockford and formerly of Caulfield, MO passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at St. Anne Center. Born November 25, 1936 in Wichita, KS the son of Homer and Alma (Wallace) Long. Met and married his loving wife, Veda Turner in Rockford and worked for Weyerhaeuser for several years as a supervisor retiring in 1991. He and Veda loved to winter in Texas and would also enjoy time at Lake Koshkonong in WI. He was a kind and caring husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed greatly.

Survivors include his son, Dennis (Linnea) Johnson of Taylorsville, GA; grandchildren, Kristina (Bert) Brown of Acworth, GA and Kari Ann (Shon) Parramore of Taylorsville, GA; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother, Jerry Long of West Plains, MO; sisters, Sue (Dennis) Roberts and Renee Cawvey both of West Plains, MO. Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Veda in 2011.

Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Roclford, IL.John will be laid to rest on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to: National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131. Services will be directed by House-Gregg Funeral Homes of Walnut Ridge & Lynn, AR.
