Jesse Grover Butts, age 46, died at his home here, Saturday after several weeks illness of a stomach ailment. Funeral service was conducted at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Jake Drake officiating. Burial was in the Huntsville cemetery. Bruce Brashears Undertaking Co. of Huntsville was in charge of funeral arrangements. Pallbearers were James Warren, Herman Culwell, James Hargis, Kelly Cornett, Lee Combs and Loy Hawn.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Eliza Butts of Yale, Ark.; his wife, Elsie Wharton Butts, a son, Dorsie, two daughters, Mrs. Lem Reeves and Mrs. Arlis Coger, all of Huntsville; three brothers, Eddie Butts of Yale, Walter Butts of Boston and Willie Butts, of Buckeye, Ariz.

Mr. Butts was born at St. Paul, Ark., July 8, 1892, the son of Frank and Eliza Butts. His childhood and young manhood was spent in the Yale and Pettigrew communities. He was married to Elsie Wharton Dec. 16, 1912. They resided on a farm on Wharton Creek and also opened a hotel at Pettigrew for several years before coming to Huntsville about 15 years ago. They also were engaged in the hotel business at Springdale for a while after moving there from this place several years ago, returning to Huntsville about five years ago.

At the time Mr. Butts' taking ill, he and Mrs. Butts had been to Disney, Okla., about three months. They returned here three weeks ago.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Butts, 59, of this city were held this morning (Thursday) at 10 o'clock at the First Methodist church here, conducted by the Rev. Sam Auslam of Springdale. Mrs. Butts died at the Springdale Hospital, August 8, after three months illness. She had been hospitalized the past four weeks.

She was born September 26, 1896 at Loy, Ark., the daughter of Jim and Annie Ashmore Whorton. She was a member of the Methodist church, the Woman's Society of Christian Service, and the American Legion Auxiliary, and was quite active in her church and auxiliary work. She was married to Jess Grover Butts December 16, 1912 at Loy, and he preceded her in death 17 years ago on April 1, 1939.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Flossie Wilson of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Anna Coger of Huntsville; one son, Dorsie W. Butts of Loring AFB, Maine; four brothers, Tom Whorton and Dorsie Whorton of Pryor, Okla., Robert Whorton of Bentonville and George Whorton of Clarksville; three sisters, Mrs. Eliza Dailey and Mrs. Mary Hillard of Huntsville, and Mrs. Jewel Bolinger of Locust Grove, Okla., and three grandchildren.

Burial was in the Huntsville cemetery under the direction of the Brashears Funeral Home.
