MARKED TREE -- Vera Sue Latham Chambers died Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Three Rivers Nursing Center in Marked Tree.
She was born in Friendship, Tenn., and moved to Arkansas with her late husband, Robert Chambers Sr., in the 1930s. She was a sales clerk and eventual store manager for Harris Department Store in Lepanto. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, the Lepanto Museum, the Lepanto City Council and the First Baptist Church. She was also involved in establishing the first church library in Arkansas at the Lepanto First Baptist Church. She also wrote a column in the local weekly newspaper.
Survivors include one son, David Hall Chambers of Raytown, Mo.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Robert "Bob" Chambers Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Lepanto. Burial will be in Potter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home of Lepanto.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to service time Sunday at the church.
Donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Library or to the Lepanto Museum.
